ADDC is uniting with individuals and organisations nationwide to urge our leaders to take immediate action to create a safer world for all.
Australia is recognized as one of the safest, healthiest and most generous nations globally.
Yet, when we observe the broader international landscape – through television, news and social media -we are confronted with the devastating effects of conflict, poverty and climate change.
The world today is more unstable than it has been for generations.
Numerous conflicts are displacing more people than ever before. Communities are struggling to access basic necessities like food and water, and our neighbouring countries are increasingly in need of support.
Despite this growing global need, Australia’s contributions are falling short. Australian aid, as a percentage of national wealth, ranks among the lowest of all developed nations. Currently, only 0.68% of the federal budget is allocated to aid.
This trend cannot continue. It is imperative that we step up to support our Pacific neighbours, whose island homes are at risk from rising sea levels. We must stand with the one in five children living in conflict zones and address the needs of the 700 million people facing hunger worldwide.
Now is the time for Australia to increase its aid commitment. By raising our contribution from 0.68% to 1% of the federal budget, we can make a substantial impact.
We urge you to contact your Member of Parliament to express your support for a more robust Australian aid budget, and together, help build a safer world for all.
