“I believe that all human beings have the right to be independent, to guide

their own lives and to take decisions about themselves. Often persons affected

with leprosy and persons with disabilities find themselves in situations where

these rights are limited or negated. I think that in our work with marginalized

and vulnerable persons, it is fundamental that we work with them and support

them so that they gain control of their own lives. So that we all can be “human

beings like others”, as Raoul Follereau used to say.

I would like to dedicate this guide to all those persons who work in the field

to support and fight for rights of all human beings, especially of the more

marginalized persons.”
